Under the vaulted roof of the Palais des Papes, Avignon has kept intact the splendour of a city shaped by history, culture and the arts. But it's just a stone's throw from this medieval jewel, in the private mansion of La Mirande, that a tradition of rare elegance is about to be revived: the costume ball. A meeting that combines refinement, heritage and dreams, and promises to write a new page in the great book of French aristocratic festivities.

A centuries-old tradition revisited

The Costume Ball at la Mirande is one of those customs that for centuries have accompanied young people as they entered the world. Inherited from the Europe of the royal courts, this celebration was for a long time a privileged moment when young girls from high society made their first official appearance as adult women. Sumptuous gowns, waltzes, music and codified rituals provided the setting for a suspended moment, full of promise.

France, with its cultural influence and renowned refinement, was the natural setting for these evenings where tradition was combined with splendour. Taking part in a Bal des Débutantes was a way of honouring a family lineage, affirming a sense of belonging and savouring the magic of a world where etiquette blended with the French art of living. Today, while customs may have evolved over time, the spirit remains the same: elegance, distinction and the sharing of a universal heritage.

La Mirande: a timeless setting

La Mirande, an 18th-century mansion nestling at the foot of the Palais des Papes, offers the ideal setting for this long-awaited return. Its wood-panelled salons, glittering chandeliers and hushed atmosphere create a setting where every detail seems to whisper of history. Once the home of notables and prelates, La Mirande has preserved the soul of ancient Provence while cultivating excellence in hospitality.

For the Bal des Débutantes, the house will be displaying all its refinement: artfully laid tables, French-style service, dishes inspired by the greatest culinary traditions. But above all, the magic of the place – this blend of historic grandeur and precious intimacy – will offer participants a setting worthy of the most refined dreams.

Avignon, city of arts and dreams

When we talk about the Bal des Débutantes at La Mirande, we’re also talking about Avignon, a world city that has been a cultural powerhouse since the Middle Ages. Capital of the popes in the 14th century, Avignon was a crossroads of power, diplomacy and art. With its ramparts, cobbled streets, legendary bridge and theatre festival, Avignon is a city where history can be seen at every turn.

Hosting a ball of this magnitude in this setting means returning to the spirit of the great celebrations that have shaped Avignon’s reputation. Participants from all over France and beyond will have the privilege of writing a new page in a city whose illustrious past magnifies every event.

A dream of a night

This ball is more than just a social gathering. It’s a sensory experience, an immersion in a world where elegance is lived and felt. The young women, adorned in gowns designed by the great designers, will make their entrance into the VIP lounge to the amazement of the guests. The young men, dressed in black, will offer them their arms for the first dances, reviving the art of the waltz, a symbol of grace and union.

Beyond the pomp and beauty of the costumes, this is a moment of personal fulfilment, a symbolic passage where tradition and modernity meet. Every smile, every step, every note of music will bring the spirit of the ball to life, offering guests a rare emotion: that of taking part in a daydream.

A heritage of French elegance

France remains the cradle of savoir-vivre and the art of celebration. From the splendour of the Versailles court balls to the discreet elegance of the Parisian salons, the country has always known how to transform social occasions into veritable works of art. The Bal des Débutantes at La Mirande continues this tradition, reinventing it without changing it.

The event is not stuck in the past: it draws on history to inspire the present. In today’s fast-paced world, it offers a moment to take the time to admire, listen and savour. It’s a reminder that elegance isn’t just an ornament, but a state of mind, a way of celebrating the most beautiful things in life together.
