Over the years, the company took on different names, including Baker and Leigh and Leigh and Sotheby’s. It was not until 1983 that the name was finally changed to Sotheby’s. Today, it is the oldest and largest auction house in the world.
Of British origin, the firm is present in 40 countries around the world, including a gallery in Monaco since 1967, which brings together exceptional works of art, design and luxury in a carefully curated setting.

Located in the heart of the Côte d’Azur, the space offers a lively calendar of events, from virtual wine tastings to trunk shows. Sotheby’s Monaco also offers a range of online and offline services, and private appointments are welcome. Knowledgeable specialists will be happy to provide confidential advice and discuss any work of interest in a constantly updated and evolving edition.
Mark Armstrong heads the Sotheby’s Monte Carlo office covering Monaco and the Alpes-Maritimes, and is available to appraise your fine art, furniture, paintings, watches and wine. Jewellery is appraised by Douglas Walter, a jewellery specialist.

The staff welcome this opportunity to help you with your purchases and the management of your possessions, wherever you may live. With the help of international experts in all areas of art and decorative arts, jewellery, wine, books and collectibles, they are able to answer any questions you may have about buying, selling or appraising an item from your collection. The office will also be happy to answer any questions you may have about forthcoming sales, facilitate purchase orders or arrange shipping for your items.
