La Bastide de Marie, our benchmark
In Ménerbes, a village majestically perched on its rocky outcrop, Provence expresses itself with restraint and depth. Here, there is no exaggerated picturesqueness or complacent folklore. The landscape imposes a different interpretation: that of a rural civilisation patiently developed, shaped by stone, vines and the passage of time. Between Gordes and Bonnieux, in the heart of historic Luberon, La Bastide de Marie is part of this rare continuity, where hospitality is as much a heritage as it is an art.
The property stands out for its authenticity. It seeks neither to seduce with excess nor to impose itself with spectacle. Its authority rests on the obvious: that of a place that has remained faithful to its landscape, its rhythm and its original vocation.

The Domaine de Marie, the birth of a vision
The contemporary history of Domaine de Marie began in 2000, when Jean-Louis Sibuet acquired this land, which was then lying fallow. A man of culture and intuition, he immediately recognised the estate’s potential for wine production and heritage. The decision was based on a careful assessment of the land and a sincere attachment to inland Provence.
A thorough, methodical and consistent programme of work was then undertaken. The vineyard was completely redesigned. The old, structuring grape varieties – Grenache and Syrah – were preserved, while the less suitable plots gave way to varieties chosen for their ability to express the terroir: Roussanne, Vermentino, Cinsault and Mourvèdre. The aim was consistency, never convenience.
Gradually, this rigorous approach shaped a clear, understated and precise wine-making identity. It was part of a process of transmission. Jean-Louis Sibuet involved his son Nicolas in the venture at an early stage, passing on to him a demanding relationship with the land, wine and time. This family continuity gives Domaine de Marie a stability that is rare in a wine-making world often subject to fads and yield requirements.

For diverse terroir, masterful interpretation
The vineyard now covers twenty-six hectares, divided into four distinct terroirs, all located in the commune of Ménerbes. This diversity is a decisive asset. The soils, topography, western exposure and diversity of microclimates offer a palette of expressions of great finesse.
The vines are cultivated with care and discernment. Nothing is left to chance: the plots are understood and monitored. This precision is reflected in the wines, which clearly express their geographical and climatic origins.
Two white wines, two rosés and three reds with the Luberon AOC appellation currently make up the estate’s range. They all share a common signature: balance, aromatic clarity and depth without heaviness. The whites are distinguished by their tension and freshness, the rosés by their elegance and restraint, and the reds by their controlled structure and ageing potential. These are sunny wines intended for attentive tasting.

Vinification guided by precision
The Domaine de Marie winery reflects a resolutely contemporary approach, focused on the grapes rather than technological performance. The harvest is brought in by gravity, ensuring gentle and respectful handling of the grapes. After destemming and crushing, vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel and wooden vats, ensuring rigorous control of fermentation temperatures.
A new cellar, equipped with ovoid concrete vats dedicated to white wines, completes the ensemble. This technical choice promotes harmonious vinification, allowing the aromas to express themselves with fullness and precision. The ageing cellar, located underground and backed by natural rock, offers constant temperature and humidity conditions. The red wines for ageing continue to mature there in oak barrels, gaining complexity and depth.

La Bastide de Marie, hospitality and permanence
La Bastide de Marie follows the same philosophy of accuracy and restraint. A former 18th-century farmhouse, restored with scrupulous respect for its volumes and materials, it welcomes its guests in an atmosphere of peaceful elegance. The rooms and suites, opening onto the vineyards and hills of the Luberon, favour light, natural materials and discreet comfort.
Each space seems designed to promote rest, contemplation and disconnection. Luxury is expressed without ostentation, in the silence of a morning over the vineyards, in the regularity of an unchanging landscape, in the quality of attentive and measured service.

A meeting place for enlightened minds
La Bastide de Marie appeals to those who value longevity, tradition and consistency. Economists, historians, business leaders and enlightened enthusiasts recognise it as a place that embodies a certain idea of France: cultured, rigorous and faithful to its territories.
In Ménerbes, the Domaine de Marie is a permanent fixture in the Luberon landscape, without ever seeking to dominate it. It extends its history with intelligence, awareness and elegance. A rare address, intended for those who know how to read between the lines of a region and appreciate its depth.
